Playful Phantoms at Pandoraâs
Itâs been said that cats have nine lives. Buildings in the Magic Valley seem to have just as many, if not more. Several downtown businesses were known by other names during the course of their history, and each time they seemed to take on a new life of their own. Thatâs not to say that something from the past doesnât remain. Pandoraâs Restaurant and Pub, which now is closed, was such a place.
The building, located in the Warehouse District, was originally used as a warehouse to store grain, clover seed, and beans for the Twin Falls Milling and Elevator Company. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. Most recently, from 2007 to 2010, it was known as a cozy restaurant and bar operated by Kurt and Pandora Handley. The Twin Falls couple said over the course of the three years they leased the building, they experienced several strange encounters with the paranormal.
âThe first significant experience we had was in the kitchen,â Kurt Handley said. A box of croutons had fallen off the refrigerator onto a table about three feet away. The box landed upside down, and not a crouton had fallen out. When the couple discovered it the next morning, they were intrigued how such a thing could have happened without any croutons flying outside the open box as it fell. Did it fall? It looked more like it was gently placed upside down on the table, deliberately keeping all croutons inside. Kurt said they tried to reenact the episode to see if they could match the scenario, but they couldnât. Every time they tried it, croutons went flying.
The couple also has caught many orbs in the building. Now, according to some ghost hunters, orbs donât necessarily mean the presence of ghosts. Orbs can be dust or moisture on the camera lens or in the air, captured only by a cameraâs sensitive eye. But one orb the Handleys caught on camera goes against these theories. This particular orb hung over a chair at one of the restaurantâs tables. When they zoomed in on the orb, there appeared to be the face of a woman inside it. It appeared as if the spirit was sitting at the table just as comfortably as the restaurantâs human customers.
The woman caught on camera might be the victim of an accident, Kurt said. The building has a spiral metal staircase that leads from the first floor to the basement. The stairs originally came from an establishment in Philadelphia. One night, when a paranormal group was investigating Pandoraâs, one of the investigators stopped at the bottom of the stairs and said that she felt something had happened on those stairs, and that some entity was attached to them. A woman, it is believed, had fallen down those same stairs and died, and her presence lingered at the site of her death.
âA ghost is the disembodied soul of a deceased person who has not yet successfully crossed over,â reads a description on True-Ghost-Stories.
